Description

Even though its name means “Little orange” in Spanish, Naranjilla (aka Lulo) is not a citrus crop by any means! In fact, it is a relative of tomato, eggplant and pepper. Originating from northern portions of South America, this fruit is small, round and has a thick, bright orange peel and a greenish pulp with a jelly-like consistency and a slightly sweet flavor. In addition, naranjilla is a good source of fiber, vitamins A, C, and K, carotene, and phosphorus. It also contains calcium and small amounts of B-complex vitamins and iron. Furthermore, this fruit consists of pepsin which is actually a type of fiber and is very beneficial for the digestive tract.
