Description

Not only is their resemblance strikingly uncanny, but it is thought that both nectarines and peaches originated in China over 2,000 years ago and were cultivated in ancient Persia, Greece and Rome. As for the nectarine, it is a rounded fruit with a smooth and a perfumed, overtly juicy flesh. Besides, there are actually two types of this fuzz-free fruit: yellow-fleshed and white fleshed. While the white-fleshed nectarines are typically low or sub-acid, the yellow-fleshed ones are both sweet and tart. Nutrition-wise, nectarines are a good source of Vitamin C, Beta-carotene and potassium. They also provide Vitamin E, B vitamins, calcium, fiber and some iron. Beta-carotene, for instance, is a pigment that helps reduce inflammation, improve immune function, protect DNA and control cell growth in ways that may reduce cancer risk.
