The Pimento is native to South America, but also appears in Spain, Hungary, Morocco, and the Middle East. It is basically a small, heart-shaped sweet red pepper, except its flesh is sweet, succulent and more aromatic than the red bell pepper. The Paprika Pimento pepper is also one of the mildest in the Scoville index falling in the lowest range of the scale (100-500) units. So, you can go ahead and consume it without having to worry about it setting your soul on fire! In addition, pimento is rich in vitamins A and C, and contains capsaicin, which can help relieve arthritis and chronic pain. Cooking-wise, Paprika Pimento peppers can be pickled and used in canning applications. They can also be diced or sliced to bring flavor, color and texture to salads and fresh salsas.
