Believed to be native to Southern Mexico and the Yucatan, the sapodilla fruit is a large berry, averaging 4 to 8 cm in diameter. Besides, its flesh ranges from a pale yellow to an earthy brown color, not to mention that it has an exceptionally sweet, malty flavor. Nutrition-wise, this fruit is rich in antioxidant polyphenolic compound tannin, which in turn has potential anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-parasitic effects.
