Description

Wax gourds are an ancient food staple of China and were first cultivated in ancient Egypt. Their d health benefits include stimulating growth and development, maintaining cardiovascular health, ensuring proper digestion, boosting metabolism, helping in cognitive functions and helping remove toxins. Wax gourds can actually measure 38 cm in diameter, and are most often marketed by the slice due to their extreme size. In addition, they have a hard, thin, chalky pistachio colored skin with a waxy feel. Plus, their snow white flesh is mild flavored with a similar water rich texture of a watermelon. Cubed or sliced, Wax gourds can be steamed, simmered, braised or parboiled and added to stir-fries. They are also suitable for pickling and may be diced and candied.
