Description

Originated in West Africa, Watermelon is grown in tropical and subtropical areas worldwide for its large edible fruit, which in turn is sweet, juicy, and is usually deep red to pink, with many black seeds. Besides, watermelons are hands down one of the most popular fruits of summer, usually consumed fresh in slices, diced in mixed fruit salads, or as juice. Nutritionally, this giant fruit has high water content, making it hydrating, let alone fulfilling. In addition, watermelon is a low-calorie fruit high in some nutrients, especially carotenoids, vitamin C and cucurbitacin E. As a matter of fact, some compounds in this fruit, including cucurbitacin E and lycopene, have been studied for their potential to prevent cancer.
