Description

Cowpea plants, which are high in protein and extremely drought tolerant, have been one of the main food crops in Africa for thousands of years. Africans also cook the plant's leaves, which are 25 percent protein based on dry weight. As a matter of fact, nutritional experts have discovered that cowpeas' leaves encompass more nutritional value then the peas themselves. For one, they are an excellent source of vitamins as well as antioxidant serving multiple health benefits. These leaves also have high content of fiber, and are useful to treat diabetic, cardiovascular and overweight conditions.
