Delaware grapes are native to the eastern United States and were first recorded growing in Delaware, Ohio in 1849. These grapes are small to medium in size, oval to round in shape, with a skin that ripens to pale red or pink. In addition, their flesh is aromatic and has a sweet, mild, and slightly fruity flavor that is often likened to gummy candy. As a matter of fact, Delaware grapes contain vitamins A and C, potassium, thiamine, iron, and calcium. Furthermore, all grapes are a low-calorie, fat-free food with a low glycemic index. These vine-growing goodies also contain compounds with antioxidant properties. One of them, resveratrol, is thought to trigger certain reactions that may improve energy metabolism.
