Believed to be native to the New Guinea area, Fe'i bananas are squat, thick, and have prominent ridges running the length of the peel making them slightly angular and round. When mature, their peel becomes bright orange with blushes of red, yellow, with black cracking. And as for their flesh, it is semi-firm, yet becomes tender and starchy with sweet and tangy flavors when cooked. When it comes to their nutritional benefits, these unique bananas are an excellent source of potassium, calcium, carotenoids, and vitamin E, which in turn functions mainly as an antioxidant, considering it helps protect cells from damage caused by unstable molecules called free radicals.
