Native to the Polynesian island of Tonga, Hopa bananas have an elongated, rounded shape and a medium-thin skin that matures from a light green to yellow color. Besides, these bananas have a starchy texture with a mild flavor, but as they mature, they develop a sweet flavor with a creamy consistency. Nutrition-wise, Hopa bananas contain high amounts of potassium, vitamin C, vitamin A, magnesium, and vitamin B6, which in turn may prevent a decline in brain function by decreasing homocysteine levels that have been associated with Alzheimer’s disease and memory impairments.
