Named for the county in which they were discovered, Tulare cherries have a deep red outer skin with occasional blushes of light magenta, not to mention that their flesh is quite firm and juicy, and offers all of the bright and tangy flavors one looks for in a classic sweet cherry variety. Nutrition-wise, these cherries contain anthocyanins, which are being researched for their potential health benefits, including anti-inflammation and pain reduction. Besides, sweet cherry varieties such as the Tulare are also a good source of vitamins A and C, calcium and iron which forms hemoglobin, a red protein whose main purpose is to transport oxygen in the blood.
