Native to Central Europe, European crabapples are very small, albeit not perfectly round as their counterparts. Besides, their creamy white flesh has a tart, acidic flavor that will eventually develop more sugars in the flesh, if left on the tree a little bit longer. These crabapples are also rich in vitamin C and fiber. In addition, they contain high amounts of phenols, which along with the vitamin C content, provide excellent antioxidant benefits. They are also a source of magnesium, iron, potassium, and B-complex vitamins.
