Description

In Guyana, there are several varieties of plantains grown but farmers as well as consumers show a definite preference for the ‘Creole plantain’. For one, they enjoy using it in a variety of food preparations. Besides, it is mighty nutritious, considering a single serving of this plantain offers about 16% of the needed magnesium, which is important because it helps with the regulation of blood pressure, preventing osteoporosis and the absorption of calcium. Research has even shown that plantains in general and their magnesium may help to lower the risk of contracting Type 2 diabetes because they can control blood glucose levels.
