Description

Native to Southeast Asia, D. esculenta was actually one of the first yam species cultivated. The tubers of this variety resemble long and narrow sweet potatoes, but occasionally may be spindle shaped or branched. Besides, they are typically cooked and eaten as a carbohydrate foodstuff. They may be boiled, baked with their skins on, or fried as slices or as French fries.
