This heirloom variety is actually revered by Italian chefs and gardeners alike for its superior flavor and buttery texture. It has distinct, dark green leaves that are gently creased, not to mention that it has a mild, sweet flavor, although sometimes it can develop a unique salty character. Argentata is indeed an excellent source of potassium, iron, vitamin A and C, calcium, and fiber. As a matter of fact, chard is also high in many antioxidants including beta-carotene and flavonoids, which may help prevent certain conditions like heart disease and lung cancer.
