Cremini (or Crimini) mushrooms were first cultivated in Europe in the 17th century, and are still cultivated underground in Western France. These mushrooms have a light to dark brown cap with a short white stem, not to mention that their flavor is mild and somewhat earthy with a meaty texture. As a matter of fact, cremini mushrooms contain 15 different vitamins, minerals and essential phytonutrients. They have also been found to contain a polysaccharide that inhibits the growth of a bacterium that is responsible for stomach ulcers, gastritis and gastric cancers. Cooking-wise, these cute mushrooms are ideal for fresh eating, baking, roasting or stewing. Besides, they pair well with stock, mozzarella cheese, tomato-based sauces, fresh herbs and beef. You’d love their unique taste when combined with one of these ingredients.
