Native to southern Texas, the pods Hill Country Red okra grow straight up like corn, and are generally harvested when they’re still less than 12 cm long. These pods, however, are much wider than other varieties and are light green with maroon highlights and streaks. Nutrition-wise, Hill Country Red okra contains essential vitamins A, C, and B6, as well as the minerals Calcium, Iron, potassium, and magnesium. Besides, like other okra varieties, Hill Country is rich in antioxidants that may reduce your risk of serious diseases, prevent inflammation, and contribute to overall health. Most notably, it contains polyphenols that may contribute to heart and brain health.
