Bred in Japan, the Izu persimmon is native to both Japan and China, and was introduced to the United States in the mid-1800s. These fruits are round in shape, medium in size, and have a crunchy, pale orange flesh that tastes very sweet when ripe. In addition, Izu persimmons are rich in vitamins A and C, and contain high amounts of fiber and tannins. They also contain antioxidants, which help the body fight off free-radicals. Furthermore, these persimmons contain minerals like phosphorus, which in turn keeps your bones strong and healthy.
