This is perhaps the best-known and most commonly available of the traditional main crop varieties of rhubarb. It produces prodigious crops of long, thick (sometimes huge), bright red sticks that taste just like the standard rhubarb. As a matter of fact, rhubarb packs a good dose of vitamin K, which plays a central role in bone metabolism and may even offer protection against osteoporosis. This is because vitamin K is required for an important protein hormone that is involved in bone formation.
