Description

The sweet orange is believed to have originated in southern China and came to the Mediterranean region several hundred years after the bitter orange. This orange boasts a sweet flavor, which is actually a blend of sugar and acid, not to mention that it is round to oval in shape. As a matter of fact, sweet oranges happen to be a hybrid of mandarin and pomelo. Besides, these oranges contain large amounts of vitamin C. In fact, it is believed that sweet oranges might help asthma because of the antioxidant activity of vitamin C. In addition, they contain large amounts of potassium, which in turn may help prevent high blood pressure and stroke.
