Description

Native American tribes across the American Southwest have relied on Barrel cactus pears as an important food source during the sparse and desolate summer months. Besides, they are rich in vitamins A & C, and have a pulp that can be applied externally as an analgesic. In addition, these fruits are small oblong shaped fruits with a golden pinkish exterior, topped with the remnants of dried petals, not to mention that their fleshy yellow interior surrounds a cavity that is filled with small black seeds. As a matter of fact, Barrel cactus pear is tart and lemony with hints of rose and guava. When it comes to food, this variety is best prepared in sweet applications, since its natural tartness lends itself well to a hint of sugar.
