These spiny, other-worldly looking fruits are unusual and decorative, and in many cases they are primarily purchased for their ornamental qualities rather than for eating. In addition, they contain a surprising number of phytonutrients, not to mention that they are also loaded with antioxidants, and are home to carotene, protein, vitamin C, polyunsaturated fatty acids and B vitamins. Besides, the flavor of the dragon fruit is mildly sweet, like a blend of kiwifruit and pear, and has a crunchy texture. While Dragon fruits may seem a little strange at first, they’re rather easy to prepare. Just make sure that you only eat the white part containing the seeds, and discard any remaining pink portions, as they tend to be bitter.
