The trifoliate orange is native to northern China and Korea, and is also known as the Japanese bitter-orange. These fruits are very bitter, due in part to their poncirin content. Most people even consider them inedible fresh. Trifoliate oranges can be made into marmalade when dried and powdered, and they can also be used as a condiment. Since it is rich in vitamin C, this variety has some medicinal uses, and is widely used in Oriental medicine as a treatment for allergic inflammation.
