Asam Gelugur mangosteen is native to Peninsular Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar and Assam (India), and is also found in the Philippines. This sour fruit is rather large, and nearly round, fluted several ribs and grooves. Besides, it ripens to an orange-yellow color, not to mention that it is typically used in place of tamarind pulp for flavoring. Nutritionally, Mangosteen is a rich source of antioxidants and vitamins. In addition, it has certain compounds that reduce oxidative stress caused by free radicals, and therefore help protect the body from various diseases, ranging from common cold and flu, cancer risk and heart disorders.
