Gamboge mangosteen is native to Southeast Asia, and is distinguished by its small, round shape and smooth, thin skin that matures from green to yellow. Just beneath it is a soft, edible, yellow flesh that has a slightly sweet, tart flavor. Nutrition-wise, Gamboge mangosteen is high in vitamin C, and also contains a phytonutrient called xanthone, which is a powerful antioxidant, along with dietary fiber and small amounts of vitamin A, iron and calcium
