Native to China, Indian lettuce is medium to large in size, and has long, oblong leaves that are flat in shape. In addition, this lettuce has a fresh, crunchy texture and a pungent, semi-bitter, green flavor. Nutritionally, Indian lettuce contains vitamin C, potassium, iron, calcium, ascorbic acid, beta-carotene, and riboflavin, which in turn helps the body break down carbohydrates, proteins and fats to produce energy, and it allows oxygen to be used by the body. Indian lettuce is best suited for both raw and cooked applications such as stir-frying, steaming, and boiling. Furthermore, it can be used fresh in salads or used as a wrap for meats, vegetables, fish, or deep-fried tofu.
