Description

Believed to have come to Mexico from Spain in the late 17th century and then to the Philippines in the late 18th century, Black Sapote is a round, squat fruit with an initially olive green skin that will darken and develop the occasional black speckles as it ripens. As for the pulp, it is white when unripe and turns dark brown to almost black when ripe, not to mention that it has a sweet, custardy, chocolate-like flavor. Nutrition-wise, this variety is high in vitamins A and C along with fiber. In addition, this powerhouse of minerals has additional amounts of calcium, phosphorus, and iron which are key sources required by bones to increase their endurance.
