Native to the Himalaya and the mountains of southwestern China, the Himalayan mulberry is an under-appreciated fruit, often cursed by homeowners because when ripe it can fall to the ground and make a mess on patios and walkways. However, it is richly flavored, so it worth the trouble! It is worth noting that all mulberries are rich in plant compounds, such as anthocyanins, that contribute to their color and beneficial health effects, such as its role in inhibiting oxidation of LDL (bad) cholesterol and providing beneficial effects against heart disease.
