Believed to have been discovered in Spain at the turn of the 20th century, Calcot onions are small to medium in size, and are elongated, slender, and cylindrical in shape. They actually resemble a green onion or a young leek! Besides, these onions are mild when raw and when cooked, they become extremely tender and develop a smoky, slightly sweet, flavor. Nutrition-wise, Cacots contain some vitamin C, vitamin B6, calcium, manganese, flavonoids, and potassium. The fact that they contain vitamin C is mighty impressive because this vitamin is a nutrient involved in regulating immune health, collagen production, tissue repair and iron absorption.
