Texas mulberry grows along creeks and in canyons in the western two thirds of the state. It grows as a small shrub with leaves and fruits that are equally smaller. Besides, its fruits are a good source of magnesium, potassium, riboflavin, iron, calcium, vitamin C, and fiber. As a matter of fact, one of this mulberry's greatest health assets is its high concentration of resveratrol, an antioxidant currently being studied for its effects on heart health. An ancient fruit of Asia, the mulberry is also touted in medicinal folklore as a remedy for ringworm, insomnia, arthritis, and tapeworm.
