Native to Southeast Asia, Vietnamese cilantro is a leafy herb with green leaves and the occasional chestnut-maroon colored streak about mid-leaf. Besides, the flavor of this perennial herb is similar to cilantro with a spicy taste followed by a bit of a lemon zing. As a matter of fact, the essential oil from Vietnamese cilantro contains several compounds for aroma and flavor that have anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and analgesic (pain relieving) properties. Vietnamese cilantro also serves as a digestive aid and has anti-diarrhea properties. In addition, this herb is most often used fresh in salads or paired with duck, and often in dishes made with boiled duck eggs.
