Description

Sodium ferric gluconate complex is an iron replacement product for treatment of iron deficiency anemia. It is used in adult and in pediatric patients over the age of 6 years with chronic kidney disease. It is worth noting that Iron is an important component that is essential for blood production, energy, and cognitive function. Remember that you should not mix Sodium ferric gluconate with other medications, considering compatibility has not been established yet. However, its use during pregnancy may be acceptable, given the fact that controlled studies in pregnant women show no evidence of fetal risk. You’ll still have to use it with caution, though, if benefits outweigh risks. Besides, it is still not known whether Sodium ferric gluconate is excreted in human milk. As a matter of fact, the most commonly reported adverse reactions in adult patients who used Sodium ferric gluconate were nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea, hypotension, cramps, hypertension, dizziness, chest pain, and leg cramps.
