Description

Developed in 1967, Cephalexin is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections such as the middle ear, bone and joint, skin, and urinary tract. It may also be used for certain types of pneumonia, strep throat, and to prevent bacterial endocarditis. It is worth noting that Cephalexin works by interfering with the formation of the bacteria’s cell walls. This, of course, ruptures the walls and kills the bacteria. Bear in mind that this drug should only be used to treat bacterial infections. Therefore, you shouldn’t use it to treat viruses, such as the common cold. The good thing about Cephalexin is that it doesn’t cause drowsiness. It can nonetheless cause other side effects, namely diarrhea, indigestion, irritation or inflammation of your stomach lining, and stomach pain. If these effects are mild, they may go away within a few days or a couple of weeks. However, if they’re more severe or don’t go away, you should talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Fortunately, the use of this medication during pregnancy or breast feeding does not appear to be harmful to the baby. Plus, it can be used in children and those over 65 years of age. However, those with kidney problems may require a decrease in dose
