Description

Approved for medical use in 1947, Dextran-70 is a type of fluid given by injection into a vein to expand blood volume. Specifically this fluid is used for shock such as that caused by bleeding or burns when blood transfusions are not quickly available. Basically, Dextran-70 works by pulling fluid from the extravascular space into the blood vessels. When it comes to the side effects of using Dextran-70, they actually include vomiting, fever, and joint pains. In addition, this fluid can also cause allergic reactions and poor blood clotting. Remember that Dextran-70 is not recommended in people with kidney failure, significant heart failure, or a clotting disorder. Plus, its use is also not recommended during pregnancy.
