Description

Approved for medical use in 1993, Enoxaparin is a blood-thinning medication used to treat and prevent deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism including during pregnancy and following certain types of surgery. Enoxaparin is also used in those with acute coronary syndrome and heart attacks. This medication basically works by blocking a protein in your body that causes clotting, thereby keeping blood clots from forming. And if you have a blood clot, Enoxaparin will stop it from getting worse while your body breaks down the clot on its own. It is worth noting that Enoxaparin injectable solution may cause pain or bruising of the skin at the site of the injection. This may be more likely when you first start taking the drug, or when your doctor increases your dose. This drug may also cause other side effects such as bleeding, anemia, fever and swelling in the patient’s legs. Besides, Enoxaparin can also cause a severe allergic reaction, including trouble breathing, swelling of one’s throat or tongue, hives and rash. However, its use during pregnancy appears to be safe for the baby. You should remember that the recommended dose of Enoxaparin is 40 mg once daily by SC injection. Besides, the treatment with this blood thinner is prescribed for at least 6 to 14 days whatever the recovery status.
