This once-daily, single-tablet regimen is indicated as a complete regimen for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adult and pediatric patients weighing at least 40 kg. Basically, this combination product helps to decrease the amount of HIV in your body so your immune system can work better. This eventually lowers your chance of getting HIV complications (such as new infections, cancer) and improves your quality of life. It is worth noting that lactic acidosis and hepatomegaly with steatosis, including fatal cases were reported with the use of lamivudine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, and severe acute exacerbations of hepatitis B have also been reported in co-infected patients with hepatitis B and HIV who discontinued lamivudine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate. Bear in mind that you should administer this medication on an empty stomach, preferably at bedtime. It is also worth noting that females who become pregnant while taking this fixed-dose combination may continue if viral suppression is effective and the regimen is well tolerated.
