Also known by the brand name Vimovo, “Esomeprazole and naproxen” is a combination medicine used to treat symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis when there is a high risk for stomach bleeding/ulcer. Basically, this medication works by reducing substances in the body that cause inflammation, pain, and fever. It is worth noting that the dosage of Vimovo is one tablet twice daily on an empty stomach about 30 minutes before a meal. Also bear in mind that this medication should be used only when prescribed during the first 6 months of pregnancy. In fact, it is not recommended for use during the last 3 months of pregnancy due to the potential for harm to a fetus and interference with normal delivery. And even though Naproxen passes into breast milk, it is still not known if esomeprazole passes into breast milk, too. So, you should consult your doctor before breastfeeding. When it comes to the side effects of this drug, they include severe stomach pain, heart problems, kidney problems, liver problems, low magnesium, new or worsening symptoms of lupus. Remember to seek medical care at once if you have any of the aforementioned symptoms.
