Description

Introduced for medical use in 1970, Esterified estrogens are a man-made mixture of estrogens that are used to treat symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, vaginal burning or irritation, or other hormonal changes in the vagina. It is worth noting that Estrogens modulate the pituitary secretion of gonadotropins, luteinizing hormone, and follicle-stimulating hormone through a negative feedback system; estrogen replacement reduces elevated levels of these hormones. As for the side effects of Esterified estrogens, they include nausea, breast tension, edema, and breakthrough bleeding among others. Remember that you should not take this medication if you have any of the following conditions: unusual vaginal bleeding, a blood-clotting disorder, breast cancer (unless you are taking this medicine for breast cancer symptoms), or if you have ever had thyroid cancer or uterine cancer, or a blood clot caused by taking hormones. In fact, Esterified estrogens may increase your risk of developing a condition that may lead to uterine cancer. So, do not hesitate to call your doctor at once if you have any unusual vaginal bleeding while using this medicine. Bear in mind that Esterified estrogens can harm an unborn baby or cause birth defects. Therefore, you should not use this medicine if you are pregnant.
