Description

Patented in 1984, Finasteride is a medication mainly used to treat an enlarged prostate or hair loss in men. Besides, it can also be used to treat excessive hair growth in women and as a part of hormone therapy for transgender women. Basically this medication works by decreasing the amount of the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which in turn causes your prostate to grow larger. Therefore, the decrease in this hormone helps prevent your prostate from growing larger, not to mention that it also leads to increased hair growth and decreased hair loss of the hair on your head. As far as the side effects of Finasteride are concerned, they are actually rare, even though some men experience sexual dysfunction, depression, and breast enlargement. In addition, this drug may also increase the risk of certain forms of prostate cancer. To date there are no reports of adverse pregnancy outcomes in women exposed to finasteride. However, because of the possible risk of genital defects in male babies, women should not take this medication during pregnancy. Bear in mind that Finasteride isn’t picky - meaning that you can take it with or without food.
