Description

Patented in 1976, Oxaliplatin is a cancer medication used to treat colorectal cancer. Plus, it is often used together with fluorouracil and folinic acid in advanced cancer. Basically, Oxaliplatin works by stopping the cancer cells from multiplying. It does this by binding together the strands of the cells' genetic material, DNA. It is worth noting that DNA is needed for growth and multiplication of cells. Like any other medication, this one has its own side effects such as numbness, feeling tired, nausea, diarrhea, and low blood cell counts. Besides, Oxaliplatin has other side effects that are more serious such as allergic reaction. Bear in mind that the use of this drug during pregnancy is known to harm the baby. Therefore, you must stay away from it if you’re planning a pregnancy.
