Description

Polymyxin B and trimethoprim ophthalmic combination, which comes as a solution to instill in the eye, is used to treat bacterial infections of the eye including conjunctivitis or blepharoconjunctivitis. It is worth noting that both Polymyxin B and trimethoprim are in a class of medications called antibiotics, not to mention that they work by killing bacteria that cause infections. Besides, the combination of these two antibiotics is usually instilled once in the affected eye(s) every three hours for 7 to 10 days, preferably at around the same time every day. Bear in mind that Polymyxin B and trimethoprim ophthalmic combination may be harmful to an unborn baby. So, you must tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. However, it is not known whether this combination medicine passes into breast milk, which is why you need to also ask your doctor if using it will be safe for your baby. As for the side effects that Polymyxin B and trimethoprim may cause, they include eye burning, redness, irritation, rash, itching, and eyelid swelling.
