Pyrazinamide, which was first made in 1936, is an anti-tuberculous medication in the form of white crystalline tablets. As a matter of fact, this drug is indicated for the initial treatment of active tubercuIosis in adults and children when combined with other antitubercu-lous agents such as rifampicin and isoniazid. Basically, Pyrazinamide kills or stops the growth of certain bacteria that cause tuberculosis. As for the side effects of this medication, they include nausea, loss of appetite, muscle and joint pains, and rash. In addition, Pyrazinamide has other serious side effects such as gout, liver toxicity, and sensitivity to sunlight. Bear in mind that this drug is not recommended in those with significant liver disease or porphyria. Besides, it is still unclear if using Pyrazinamide during pregnancy is safe, but it is likely okay during breastfeeding. When it comes to using this medication, remember that you have to take it on an empty stomach, preferably one hour before or two hours after a meal, with a full of glass of water.
