Description

Patented in 1981, Benazepril is used to treat high blood pressure, thereby potentially lowering your risk of a stroke or heart attack. According to Wikipedia, this medication is also indicated for the treatment of heart failure and diabetic kidney disease. Benazepril basically relaxes the blood vessels by blocking a substance in the body that causes them to tighten – A process that eventually “lowers blood pressure and increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart.”(mayoclinic.org) Bear in mind that this medication is not for everybody, considering pregnant women and people with angioedema must not use it. Also people struggling with kidney disease should avoid taking Benazepril with aliskiren, which in turn is a direct renin inhibitor. As for the side effects of this medication, they include lightheadedness, high potassium and liver problems. Remember to get immediate medical help if you have any of these issues. When it comes to the side effects that are more common, Benazepril can cause headaches or coughing fits. On a side note, this medication may be taken with or without food.
