Description

Sold under “Tracleer”, Bosentan is indicated for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (i.e. high blood pressure in the lungs), which in turn is assumed to be caused by increased levels of a natural substance called “endothelin-1”. When it comes to its mechanism of action, this medication basically blocks the effects of said natural substance, thereby lowering blood pressure in the lungs and helping your heart pump blood more efficiently. As a result, it will improve your ability to exercise. Bear in mind that Bosentan must not be used during pregnancy as it causes harm to the fetus. It is also worth noting that this treatment may render hormonal contraceptives ineffective, which means that other forms of birth control must be used instead. According to drugs.com, Bosentan causes headache, joint pain, low blood pressure, and irregular heartbeats, among others. It can also cause other side effects, albeit more serious, such as swelling in the legs/ankles, anemia, and vertigo. Remember to call your doctor immediately as soon as you experience any of the aforementioned side effects. On a side note, Bosentan is typically taken twice per day, with or without food.
