Also known as Gynazole-1, Butoconazole is an antifungal medication that is administered as a vaginal cream. This product basically fights vaginal yeast infections by hindering the growth of fungi that cause them. According to drugs.com, “Butoconazole vaginal is usually given as a single dose”. Plus, “the single-use applicator is for one use only”. Therefore, the applicator must be tossed away after one use, regardless of whether or not there is any medicine left in it after inserting the dose. It is worth noting that forms of birth control (namely latex rubber and condoms) are less effective when used during the treatment with Butoconazole, considering this vaginal cream contains mineral oil. As for the common side effects, they include vaginal pain and swelling, mild vulvar itching, and pelvic pain. Don’t forget to call your gynecologist when you start having any of these side effects. On a side note, it is still not known whether the product in question will harm an unborn baby, or if it can pass into breast milk. So, it is important that you consult a doctor before using it.
