Clomifene, which was approved for medical use in 1967, is used to treat infertility in women who do not ovulate, including “those who have polycystic ovary syndrome”. According to drugs.com, Clomifene “causes the pituitary gland to release hormones needed to stimulate ovulation.” Bear in mind that you should not use this medication if you are already pregnant, or if you have any of the following conditions (as listed on drugs.com): “liver disease, unexplained abnormal vaginal bleeding, or an uncontrolled adrenal gland or thyroid disorder.” According to the same source, Clomifene is also not recommended during breastfeeding as it may harm the nursing baby. As far as the common side effects are concerned, this medication can cause headache, breast pain, and tingly feeling. You should, however, stop using Clomifene altogether if you experience vision problems, heavy vaginal bleeding, or shortness of breath. It is worth noting that you can take Clomifene with food or on an empty stomach.
