Also known as Panthoderm, Dexpanthenol is a moisturizer indicated for the treatment or prevention of dry, rough, itchy, and scaly skin. It is also used to treat minor skin irritations such as diaper rash, or skin burns caused by radiation therapy. It is worth noting that dry skin is the result of a loss of water in the top layer of the skin. As a moisturizer, Dexpanthenol works by forming an oily layer on the top of the skin- A process that traps water in that area. Remember to tell your doctor, before using Dexpanthenol, if you have other medical problems, or if you are allergic to certain foods, drugs, or substances. You also need to tell them if you are pregnant, or if you’re planning a pregnancy in order to make sure that the medication in question will be safe for you and your baby. Bear in mind that Dexpanthenol can cause allergic reactions such as itching, trouble breathing, hives, and red or swollen skin. Make sure you contact your doctor when you experience any of these side effects. It is also important that you wash your hands and clean the affected area before using Dexpanthenol.
