Description

Discovered in 1972, Dexrazoxane injections are used to treat or prevent certain side effects that certain chemotherapy medications may cause. According to medlineplus.gov, Dexrazoxane is used to decrease or prevent heart damage caused by Doxorubicin in women who are taking it to treat breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. Bear in mind that this medication is not used to prevent heart damage in women who are just beginning treatment with Doxorubicin. Remember that you should tell your doctor, before receiving these injections, if you are allergic to certain drugs, or if you have kidney / liver disease. It is worth noting that pregnancy is not recommended during the treatment as it may harm the fetus. Therefore, you should use birth control while you are receiving Dexrazoxane injections. You should also refrain from breastfeeding, or wait two weeks after your final dose before you start nursing your baby. When it comes to the side effects, they include weakness, diarrhea, shortness of breath, rash, dizziness, and swelling of the face. Remember to call your doctor immediately if you experience any of these side effects.
