Approved for medical use in 1973, Diazoxide is a medication indicated for the treatment of low blood sugar caused by certain cancers, and it does so by “slowing the release of insulin from the pancreas.” Bear in mind that you should not use this drug to treat low blood sugar caused by diet. You should also make sure that Diazoxide is safe for you before using it by telling your doctor if you have high blood pressure, kidney disease, or if you have hypokalemia. And if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, you must also consult your doctor, considering it is not known whether this drug could harm the fetus/ the nursing baby. As far as the common side effects are concerned, they include pounding heartbeats, swelling in limbs, nausea, vomiting, and stomach cramps. There are, however, other side effects that require immediate medical care, including breathing problems, blurred vision, and high blood sugar.
