Approved for medical use in 2005, Exenatide is a medication used to treat diabetes mellitus type 2. As a matter of fact, Exenatide works by stimulating the pancreas to secrete insulin when blood sugar levels are high. It is worth noting that Insulin helps move sugar from the blood into other body tissues where it is used for energy. Besides, Exenatide also slows the emptying of the stomach and causes a decrease in appetite. As for the side effects, they include low blood sugar, nausea, dizziness, abdominal pain, and pain at the site of injection. Exenatide has other side effects, albeit more serious, such as medullary thyroid cancer, angioedema, pancreatitis, and kidney injury. Bear in mind that using this drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding is of unclear safety. Therefore, you should not use it.
